The Department's sites and facilities

The Department’s administrative headquarters are in Cesena but in terms of both teaching and research, it operates across three locations forming the University’s multi-campus organisation: Cesena, Bologna and Ravenna.

This is where the Department of Architecture’s degree courses are taught, and where research activities are carried out with the support of well-equipped laboratories.

The Cesena campus

In Cesena, the Department is housed in the new building designed by Vittorio Gregotti. The new campus is equipped with lecture halls and ample laboratories for the teaching activities of the Single-Cycle Master’s Degree Course in Architecture (running since 1999-2000).

Among other facilities, students always have their own personal workstation that can also be used outside normal class time. Such facilities make the new campus not only a place of learning, but also of study and active exchange with the student and lecturer population present.

In addition, students can make use of laboratories boasting state-of-the-art equipment that complement and support the teaching process. Indeed, the department also boasts a Photography Laboratory, an Architectural Models Laboratory and a Digital Modelling and Visualisation Laboratory for Architecture, an Architectural and City Surveying, Cartography and CAD Laboratory, now Laboratory 4.2, and finally the OFFLINE laboratory.

The Bologna campus

The Department of Architecture in Bologna is located in the former Faculty of Engineering, now the School of Engineering and Architecture. It also has a separate site in Via Saragozza 8.

This is home to the First-Cycle Degree Course in Architecture-Engineering, the Master's Degree Course in Architecture and Creative Practices for the City and Landscape (running since the A.Y. 2021-2022), the Master's Degree Course in Building Engineering-Architecture (running since A.Y. 2020-2021), the First-Cycle Degree Course in Industrial Design (running from A.Y. 2013-2014) and the Master's Degree Course in Advanced Design (running since A.Y. 2016-2017).

The building of the former Faculty of Engineering, inaugurated in 1935, was designed by architect Giuseppe Vaccaro. The Faculty grew out of the ‘Scuola di Applicazione degli Ingegneri’, established at the University of Bologna in 1877.

The Ravenna Campus

The Department's Ravenna campus hosts the Degree Course in Engineering of Building Processes and Systems.

Suitable study spaces (lecture theatres, laboratories and other spaces) are permanently available to students here.
