I temi di ricerca sintetizzati dall’acronimo HEADS corrispondono ai principali ambiti di interesse del gruppo, ma soprattutto indicano nel rapporto tra dato naturale e attività umana, il principale nodo problematico – inclusivo e interdisciplinare – che colloca la progettazione architettonica e le sue responsabilità civili all’interno di un sistema di relazioni ampio e interconnesso.

Protezione dell’ambiente, sostenibilità, economia circolare: se da un lato indicano gli obiettivi più generali cui le comunità sono chiamate – indipendentemente dalla loro dimensione – dall’altro trovano la propria affermazione nella costruzione dei territori rurali storici, nell’architettura delle città, nelle grandi idee costruttive che, negli esempi che ammiriamo, li esprimono a un livello più alto e compiuto.

L’attività di Heads si sviluppa a partire da questo punto di vista unitario ma volto alle molteplici questioni che volta a volta le esigenze dettate dalle attuali trasformazioni richiedono, nella consapevolezza che il modo in cui città e territori vengono formalizzati costituisce una discriminante sostanziale per la qualità della vita (economica, sociale, culturale, ecc.) di quelle stesse comunità.

Tra gli altri, Heads si rivolge

alla relazione tra luoghi naturali e costruzione, così come tra luoghi naturali e coltivazione, indagandone forme e rapporti in diversi ambiti geografici e culturali, a partire dai luoghi dove più acuta è la contraddizione delle trasformazioni (si pensi a come le infrastrutture si “abbattono” sui paesaggi, e a come si mostrano incapaci di costituirne l’ossatura, al problema dell’acqua, ecc.);
alle tradizioni eccellenti impresse nel disegno storico del territorio (e della città) intese come opere umane in grado di ricondurci alla sostanza del nostro mestiere e che costituiscono la “parte visibile del nostro futuro”;
agli aspetti legati al procedimento di formalizzazione del progetto, allo studio delle diverse forme di trattazione dell’architettura, in rapporto alla messa a punto di strumenti e dispositivi per la progettazione dello spazio architettonico;
al rapporto fra spazi pubblici e spazi privati della città contemporanea, inteso sia come relazione tra residenza e luoghi per il tempo libero, sia come indagine/progetto della forma dello spazio del vuoto

The research themes summarized by the acronym HEADS correspond to the main areas of interest of our group which points out the main problematic node - inclusive and interdisciplinary - in the connection between natural data and human activity and collocates architectural design and its civil responsibilities within a broad and interconnected system of relationships.

Environmental protection, sustainability, circular economy: on the one hand, they indicate the more general objectives to which communities are called - regardless of their size – and on the other they find their claim in the construction of historic rural territories, in the architecture of cities, in the great constructive ideas that, in the examples we admire, express them at a higher and more complete level.

HEADS' activity develops starting from this point of view but it is aimed at the multiple issues dictated by what is required by the current transformations from time to time, in the awareness that the way in which cities and territories are formalized constitutes a substantial discriminant for the quality of life (economic, social, cultural, etc.) of those same communities.

Among others, HEADS addresses

the connection between natural places and construction, as well as natural places and cultivation, investigating their forms and relationships in different geographical and cultural spheres, starting from places where the contradiction of transformations is more severe (just think how infrastructures “shoot down” on landscapes, and how they are incapable of constituting their backbone, the problem of water, etc.);
the excellent traditions imprinted in the historical design of the territory (and of the city) thought as human works capable of bringing us back to the substance of our profession and which constitute the "visible part of our future";
aspects related to the formalization process of the project, the study of the different forms of architecture processing, in relation to the development of tools and devices for the design of the architectural space;
the connection between public and private spaces of the contemporary city, understood both as a relationship between residence and places for leisure, and as an investigation / design of the shape of the space of emptiness.
