Project code: EUI02-064
Programme: European Urban Initiative (EUI)
Call: Greening cities
Bologna, along with the Emilia Romagna region, has been significantly affected by rising temperatures, making climate resilience a top priority. To address and solve the challenges posed by UHI and UHW for all citizens, especially vulnerable ones, TALEA introduces the TALEA Green Cells (TGC). TGC are integrative design and spatial units that serve as connective tissue in both the physical and digital realms. TGC’s innovation and originality lies in the unique integration and characteristics of their components and in the impact-making potential across different scales. TGC combine different types of nature-based solutions with creative technological innovation, site-specific and data-based monitoring and harness the power of citizen-science data collection to lead the green and digital transition. TGC are re-composable, replicable and can be attached to one another based on digitally enabled, jointly-conducted, qualitative-quantitative investigations. Different Combinations of TGC will be implemented in three areas, selected according to Bologna’s participatory budgeting and the climate and social vulnerability mapping. These will result not only in climate shelters, but will also incorporate new aesthetic, social and cultural values, as well as co-designed climate just services. At the macro-scale, TGC will support the reintegration of urban areas into a continuous Green Infrastructure. TALEA’s data and results will converge in the Bologna Digital Twin, expanding their impact, scalability, and integration.
