MIUR Department of Excellence 2018-2022
The project of the Department of Architecture aims to consolidate and innovate the identity of the Area of Civil Engineering and Architecture (Area 08), updating it concerning the national and international context both in the field of research and of second- and third-level teaching.
In this sense, the programme intends to strengthen – including in terms of competitive research projects – the topical areas of departmental development, which are currently divided into five main areas: Design Innovation, Cultural Heritage & Living Heritage, Building Performance & Architectural Liveability, Climate & Energy Challenges, Urban Design.
At the same time, it plans to develop actions to innovate the professional areas taught, focusing in particular on the area of the department and society. The revision of the education system looks towards the international context with the aim of educating professionals capable of entering the global labour market, from which emerges the opportunity to develop the specificities of Italian design cultures.
The implementation of a new doctoral programme in Area 08 is also moving in the same direction, aimed at developing interdisciplinary and intersectoral specialist skills in connection with the strengthening of the national and international research network.
These actions are reflected in the creation of Design Culture Innovation labs (DCIs) to carry out integrated third-level research and education. The topics of the DCI Labs make use of virtual spaces centred on shareable advanced computational systems, as well as the department's Communication and Image Laboratory and the Digital Humanities Laboratory.
In order to achieve these objectives, the department will exploit the university's multicampus model, creating new equipped spaces in Cesena and Bologna, confirming its teaching and research in Ravenna and supporting integration and sharing among the sites in terms of infrastructural equipment (new and existing) and research resources.
