Titling

The naming of the Center after Gina Fasoli (Bassano del Grappa 1905 - Bologna 1992) is a fitting tribute to an esteemed international scholar, a Professor of Medieval History at the University of Bologna, who significantly advanced the study of urban history. For thirty years, she represented Italy in the International Commission for the History of Cities, a scientific body accredited by the International Committee of Historical Sciences. She contributed to the formulation of the scientific plan for the Commission’s activities concerning the comparative history of European cities. Her research activities during the second half of the 20th century played a pivotal role in establishing the methodological foundations of what has only recently become a discipline in which research and teaching are conducted in all Italian universities. Gina Fasoli honored the University of Bologna by founding and directing the Institute of Historical and Legal Disciplines for over twenty years, during which many distinguished scholars have passed through, and numerous others were trained under her guidance.
