"Made in Italy Circular and Sustainable" ("MICS") is the name of the Extended Partnership (PE11) financed by the MUR (Ministry of University and Research) with funds made available by the European Union under the NextGenerationEU program, through the PNRR.
The project brings together 25 partners, including universities, research centres, and companies, intending to promote the transition towards a more circular and sustainable model of design, production, and consumption in Italy, to reduce the environmental impact of production processes, promoting the adoption of innovative technologies, energy efficiency, and end-of-life management of materials in the three strategic sectors of Clothing-Fashion (A1), Furniture (A2), and Automation (A3). MICS is divided into eight thematic areas (Spokes). Spoke 1, coordinated by the University of Bologna (Prof. Flaviano Celaschi), focuses on "Digital Advanced Design" and explores the application of digital solutions to foster circular and sustainable innovation in the industrial sectors involved. The goal is to train a new generation of designers, the "Transitional Industrial Designers," with the skills and digital tools necessary to guide this transition. This new profile is based on a systemic approach and a principle of responsibility towards products, processes, and production systems ("Design Endless Responsibility"), throughout the entire product life cycle, promoting constant dialogue with all the actors involved (Open Innovation). Spoke 1 is divided into four thematic clusters: Digital Design for Manufacturing, for Advanced Interaction, for Circular Materials, and for Knowledge Sharing. The expected result is the development of a portfolio of innovative digital solutions to support decision-making and production processes in Made in Italy. Training and dissemination activities of a broadcasting type are also planned.
