The research is aimed at exploring the inclusion in the construction sector supply chains of products aimed at limiting the impact of energy efficiency interventions by taking a Life Cycle perspective, considering that disassembly, disposal, reuse, recycling of conventional technical solutions - widely used today - are still poorly investigated. The research activities are closely linked to the definition of an abacus of "innovative" or "unconventional" materials for thermal insulation panels and the exploration of their suitability for modular Off-Site Construction systems.
The research unit of the Department of Architecture at the University of Bologna is responsible for verifying the adequacy of alternative materials compared to the products most commonly used in the construction sector, and for mapping their availability on the market at a national level. The expected results consist in mapping the identified products with information related to their technical-functional characteristics, the logistical-managerial and legislative aspects (non-technical barriers) which can allow their rapid and effective introduction into the construction market, as well as the estimate of the quantities potentially available in the territory and the location of the main and/or most promising "production" places for the purposes of their actual introduction into the production chain.
