Energy ZOning for the Optimisation of Urban Systems. Relationship models for the built environment

Most of the building sector's energy demand is concentrated in urban areas and, despite efforts to improve the performance of buildings, identification of a systematic approach for ensuring the achievement of neutral energy balances at the urban scale still seems a distant goal. Although recent projects have drawn attention to the importance of clusters as a significant scalar unit in the implementation of strategies for the improvement and control of energy behaviour, a methodologically coherent and integrated structure could direct the types of planning and management of strategic initiatives in the medium and long term. The aim of the research is to investigate a transposition of the zoning concept to the field of energy that takes into account the different energy demand propensities of buildings, considering their distribution on a district scale.
