Project code: 2023-1-IT02-KA220-HED-000158377
Programme: Erasmus+ Cooperation Partnership in Higher Education
Call: 2023
The project involves the collection of documentary material on ten architects for each partner and the interpretative redrawing of three significant works, paradigmatic of the relationship between the Grand Tour and architectural language. The European values common to the cities of the partner countries are assumed to be experienced dialectically in the experiences of a number of architects who, through their apprenticeship and travel-based training, have transferred their experience into architecture. In other words, UpGranT identifies the Grand Tour as a legacy, a training path through which apprentice architects are prepared to recognize the differences and intermingling from which European culture has emerged: the circulation of people and ideas over the centuries has translated into the co-identities embodied in European urban landscapes. The aims of this project are: the interpretative redrawing through which the architectural language of individual works makes evident their relationship with a specific cultural context and their intermingling; to create an updated map of European architecture in which these interminglings are gathered into itineraries accessible to students and architecture enthusiasts; to make the materials produced by UpGranT, the digitized materials, maps, and drawings available in Open Access mode on a dedicated web platform; and to hold a final exhibition in which all the works created during the project will be displayed.
